Introducing Spica Life!
Kyle and I have been working for a few months on this project and are so excited to make our new website live today! Spicalife.com is a resource we developed for new spica parents as a place to gather information, encouragement and support. When we learned Londyn was going to be put into a cast, my first instinct was to scour the web for any information, ideas, or even photos of babies in spica casts so I knew what to expect. The underlying motivation for this research for me though, was really just to settle my heart and know that if other people can do it, I can do it, and we would be okay. Though what I did find was very helpful to me, there was such a scarcity of information on caring for babies in spica casts, and so much was unknown until we actually lived through it.
In addition to frequently asked questions and links to other spica mom blogs, with the help of Londyn in her spica cast, and Kyle's directing/videoing/editing skills, we made a bunch of tutorial style videos for activities of daily living with a spica cast. Our hope is that spicalife will be a place every new "in the dark" spica parent can come and feel a load off their back, to know that just like we survived, they will too! As the motto for hip dysplasia goes, "Together we can, together we will."
So go check out spicalife.com and please share this resource with anyone who may benefit from it!
