Londyn's 3rd Birthday
Have I ever told you about the moment I found out I was pregnant with you? Alone in my bathroom in our sunny Pennsylvania apartment where Daddy and I brought Grayson home just a year earlier, I held a positive pregnancy test. My heart instantly knew that this life inside me would be sunshine, a joyous addition to our family, and I wanted so badly to have a little girl. Daddy and I were so thrilled to find out you were in my belly. Then, sitting in an early gender reveal ultrasound room in Wisconsin, surrounded by Gram, Grampy, Grammy Allen, Grayson and Daddy, the tech moved her wand about my belly and like magic, announced, it’s a GIRL. I cried with the sheer joy of it all. Fast forward to July 2nd, the incredible day we got to hold you in our arms, on that hazy Wisconsin morning. Daddy and I held you and could not believe our eyes at how beautiful this baby girl was.
Londyn it’s been such a beautiful three years of loving you. There have been so many times I have wanted to just stop time, and freeze you just as you are, to hold forever, and today is no exception. Yet I have seen that if just once my wish came true to freeze you in time, I’d never know the gorgeous person you are today. And though unfathomable to me at this moment, I know you are going to keep transforming into more beautiful versions of exactly who you are, and who you are meant to be. It is such a joy to be your mother.
This year I have watched you blossom from saying just a few words to speaking full sentences with a vocabulary almost as full as your brother’s. Your compassion is evident in how you treat others, often asking me, “how you feeling today?” or sympathizing, “oh that hurts” when Grayson gets a scrape. You have gone from timidly cruising around to confidently running, climbing and jumping. You were so excited to get your first haircut this year! I’ll have to do another post on your mullet to bob transformation! You also got your first pedicure when we visited Aunt Maureen in Florida, pink with sparkles, because what else would you pick? We watched your love for water and swimming grow this year, and now that it’s summer you start almost every morning with, “can we go to the splash pad today?”
You became a big sister this year, just nearly three months ago. Your response to Everly has floored me. You’ve never once shown resentment toward her for taking mama’s attention; yet you have welcomed her with open arms, cheering her on for her good job nursing, burping, or filling her diaper. Your propensity to care for your baby dolls has naturally transferred to Everly, and you are always willing to get her burp rag for me, throw away her dirty diapers, help me burp her, sing her songs, or grab a baby toy for her. She is so lucky to have both you and Grayson in her corner for the rest of her life!
Your mermaid party went off without a hitch in our beautiful Virginia backyard, and we got to see you in your glory, splashing around in the pool and sprinkler like you love to do!! We were so lucky to have some of our friends join us, and all of your grandparents too. You told us your favorite part of the whole day was the cake, which is no surprise, as you are your mama’s daughter when it comes to food! You noticed every detail of the party, the balloons, the garlands, the flowers with seashells inside the vases that Gram made, the fish hanging from our deck, the clamshell float, and exclaimed “that’s so beautiful!” about each one. You received your first Barbie along with an Ariel mermaid doll that you have not let go of since you opened. I can only imagine that this is the beginning of an era!
We finished your day with another round of Happy Birthday and cake in the evening, video games with Daddy, and a bath with your new Ariel mermaid. You picked a story, brushed your teeth and hugged our necks before you settled down in your crib. I tucked you in, like always, and told you just how much I love you as I sang you a bedtime song, just like we’ve done every night for the last three years, and I’ll do every night for as long as you’ll want me to. I wished you dreams as sweet as you, and closed your door. My new three year old, I can’t wait to see what adventures this year holds for you, and you know Daddy and I will always be cheering you on with our arms wide open. Happy Birthday! <3
